Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when my pet gets groomed?

We start by brushing out any tangles, then doing a rough clip/trim and nail trim, give a bath the blow dry followed by kennel drying if needed to ensure your pet is fully dry.  I then do a finishing clip and scissoring.

Is my pet in a kennel the whole time? Do you let the dogs play together?

I make sure dogs are taken out to potty, get drinks as needed, and able to stretch out if they'll be waiting for their families to pick up.

Unless pets all come from the same home we don't let them mingle. Since we don't know how everyone will get along, we focus on keeping everyone safe.

How long does grooming usually take?

The duration of the grooming process can vary greatly!  Is your pet brushed daily or have some mats? Are they experienced with getting groomed or are they still learning?  Do they have a fine silky coat like a Yorkie,  or a thick double coat like a malamute?

In general we like to have 3-4 hours depending on the dog. Usually grooming is not a straight through process, some drying occurs while in the kennel, and sometimes pets need a break.

What are your hours?

Due to the grooming shop being at my home, my hours are a little more flexible. All dogs should be dropped off by 1100 so they can get completed in a timely manner. Dogs can be dropped starting at 7:00am ang can be picked up as late at 7:00 pm to accomodate for work schedules. If you need a different schedule please feel free to reach out and we can see if we can find a schedule that will work for everyone.

Why does grooming cost more than my hair dresser?

Like a hair dresser grooming requires a lot of special equipment, but unlike most people pets aren't usually brushed and bathed multiple times a week.  This built up dirt and oil takes it toll on equipment faster.

Your hair dresser probably doesn't:

1. Shave your arms, legs, and butt

2. Worry you may try to bite them

3.  Clean up your pee or poop

4. Trim your nails and make sure your ears are clean

5. Express your anal glands!

Wait. Anal glands?

Dogs have a gland on each side of their anus that is used to help mark their territory.  Most groomers will express anal glands upon request. Just ask!

What about chemicals?

At Dirty Dogs and Divas we use natural disinfecting solutions to reduce exposure of your pet to chemicals while at the shop.

What kind of shampoo do you use? Do I need to bring my own?

I use a gentle moisturizing oatmeal shampoo for all dogs unless otherwise requested.  If your pet requires a special shampoo,  or treated bath you're welcome to bring their shampoo with!
